About Buckland Trails
Our volunteer organization seeks to create a trail network through Buckland, Massachusetts that offers a nearby recreational amenity to residents, showcases the natural beauty of the area, interprets local history and connects the unique places of Buckland together.
Our Goals
-
Create a non-motorized trail network in Buckland with connecting branches to Gardner Falls, Wilder Homestead, Buckland Center, Buckland Recreation Area and the Mohawk Trail Regional School.
-
Explain the local history of Buckland including indigenous peoples, waterpower and industry, hydroelectricity and rivers, agriculture and forestry, railroads and trolleys.
-
Create a trail connection to trails in neighboring towns, such as Ashfield, Charlemont, Conway, Hawley and Shelburne.
-
Create an accessible trail, possibly located at the Buckland Historical Society/Wilder Homestead.
-
Provide a healthy, relaxing option for physical activity in close proximity to the population centers of Buckland.
-
Provide an alternative to car dependent travel.

Buckland Trails was established as a non-profit organization in the fall of 2024.

Buckland Trails is modeled after other local non-profit trails organizations in Massachusetts. In neighboring Ashfield, Ashfield Trails has successfully created over 20 miles of trails on a mix of private and public land.
